Heading : Sterling Silver Hen or Duck Egg Stand
Date : Hallmarked in London For Edward & John Barnard in 1853

Decoration : A pair of differently sized egg holding ‘rings’ joined in the middle. each having a milled rim; both halves are decorated with a simple floral and foliate design. and are separated by a reeded and waisted central collar.
Size :  4.6 cm high – 5.1 cm diameter to the ‘duck’ end. and 4.6 cm to the ‘hen’ end
Condition : Very good – no significant dents or scratches; there is a very small hole. right through the side of one ‘bowl’ where the chased image has been hammered home a little too hard
Restoration : None
Weight :  31 grams (marginally less than one troy ounce)

Note : This piece is entirely reversible and will sit firmly in either orientation. depending on whether one prefers a duck egg or a hen’s egg for breakfast. or Sunday afternoon tea (the former. of course. being the correct preference in both instances. especially if taken with black pudding in the morning or thickly buttered soldiers in the afternoon)
