Henry Birks and Sons were unique among Canadian silversmiths in that they were given permission by the London assay office to use the date marks to match London silversmiths. Alongside the date mark is the Lion passant and a garb of wheat. While they did have permission to use the letter the Lion is considered a pseudo mark as it was not stamped by the London office.

William Augustus Richardson was a Navigator in the coastal command of the Royal Canadian Airforce from 1942 to 1945. He died on 13th November 1990.
