Hollow handles are known on Dutch tankards from the 17th century. These are invariably straight sided or baluster shaped. often called “Dutch jugs”. Some 18th century examples with hollow handles are tapered. Barrel shapes were first produced in glass in the third quarter of the 18th century and into the early 19th century. The rib moulding and radial moulded base is typical of production from 1790 to 1830.
