Description
A superb Georgian Engraved Tankard which date to 1770.
These types of tankards are prone to cracks propagating at the base of the handles and to chipping from endless toasts in the pub. This glass is in perfect condition.
The metal has an excellent colour for English lead glass and it contains some small seeds. air bubbles and tooling marks as one would anticipate.
The body of the glass has 12 applied bands below the rim. It is then engraved with hops and barley that surround the initials NSC in copper script. The base has a rough snapped pontil and exhibits mossing wear consistent with age.
It stands 4 7/8th inches tall with a 3 3/4ich rim and 4 inches at the base.
A wonderful example.
