The motto engraved on the armorial reads LUCEO NON URO, I shine not burn. This is in conjunction with a mountain on flame. This is the crest of the Highland Clan MacKenzie of Kintail and Ross-shire. They have an interesting history, having supported Robert Bruce they then fought against the Royalists during the civil war, they then fought for the crown at Derry and the Boyne. In the Jacobite uprisings or 1715 and 19 they rebelled once more, however in the 45 allegiances were split and they fought for both sides. One thing is true they definitely knew how to have a meaningful conversation.
