Mauchline Ware. originally hailing from the Scottish town of the same name. became a staple of Victorian souvenir sellers.  The most commonly seen examples carry a transfer print of whichever destination or sight that the intrepid Victorian tourist visited and are fashioned into all manner of everyday objects.  However. the fern decoration on this card case reflects the fascination held in the 19th century for the natural world and makes it a far more usable and attractive option in the 21st century.
