Decoration : A band of oak leaves around the four narrow edges; to one side. the quintessential Tunbridge Ware isometric cube pattern. and on the reverse. a marquetry image with a rococo frame around a view of distant ruins or a tower; both sides include Thomas Barton’s signature green oak tesserae and are set within three continuous strips of keyline stringing;
Size : 7.6 cm wide x 11.2 cm high x 1.5 cm deep
Condition : Excellent; half a dozen missing (small) tesserae; some of the cube veneers have warped very slightly. meaning that the side with that image is not perfectly flat. but everything is firmly seated in place; there are some fine scratches to the marquetry face and some minor bumps

Note : Alongside Barton’s green oak. this piece also includes the same narrow (twelve square) oak leaf border which appears on a labelled Edmund Nye glove box from the period 1855-63. This is the finest Tunbridge Ware card case that we have seen. perfect for holding debit and credit cards etc
