History : The reason behind this particular plane being modelled is that it was involved in what became known as the Weichow Incident. which took place on the 8th November 1939; this plane – in the livery of Imperial Airways and flying under serial HB183 – was attacked and shot down by two or three Japanese A5M96 Claude fighters. This pre-dated Japan’s entry in to WWII. but they were embroiled in the ongoing Sino-Japanese War and the incident occurred when the British-registered plane entered a Japanese exclusion zone over the Gulf of Tongking. The De Havilland managed to land without loss of life. Renowned aviation artist Ronald Wong has immortalised the episode in a specially commissioned painting.
