Heading : Monumental campaign box early by David Edwards

Decoration : Brass bound mahogany slope with cartouche reading “Uxoris Carissimae Donum” (A gift from my very dear wife). Interior with mauve lined slope with compartments under both sides. Lift out pen tray, inkwells and storage space with spring loaded secret compartment. Has two Edwards labels for King Street

Size : 61cm x 32cm, 22.8cm height

Condition : As a campaign slope this has quite literally been through the wars, the Crimea by repute. However, beyond a number of characterful knocks and scratches, it is entirely structurally sound.All keys present and all locks working

Restoration : Relined slope.

Weight :  12480 grams

The technique to reveal the secret compartment is not easy, by design. The interion of the tray needs to be lifted. There are leaf springs to be pressed inside the bottom right of the inkwells. This is a very fine example
