Features and Provenance: During the 15th century when this coin was issued. the Netherlands was known as the Dutch Republic. After its formation the seven provinces worked together and had a ‘Golden Age’ of seafaring glory and colonial power. bringing great wealth. This allowed the support of the arts and refuge of the prosecuted. This baroque period produced such masters as Rembrandt. Vermeer and Frans Hals. definitely a Golden Age for the Dutch.
