Features and Provenance: A coin design with great longevity having being produced for over 430 years. William II of the Netherlands came to the throne the year this coin is dated. His son. William III. succeeded him and he was the William of Orange that claimed to the English throne in 1689 in the Glorious Revolution.
The Dutch and in VOC Dutch East India Company were the international trading powehouses of the 17th and early 18th century. A consistent and respected form of money was reuired trade internationally. The Ducat was the perfect coin and although it was initially minted in Venice from 1285. it was struck in Utrecht from 1583.
