Description: A lunate bronze pendant, with enamelled cells of blue fields and white dots to the side and a central one with green enamel and white dot. The suspension loop above is intact.
Size and Weight: 39mm x 30mm. 11.19g
Features and Provenance: These pendants have been found at military sites associated with Roman cavalry and are therefore thought to have been placed on a horse rather than used as personal jewellery, though it is probable that the cavalryman would adorn his apron with such an item too. Similar example of the lunate harness pendant have been found at Vindolanda and were worn on the brow band, breast strap and haunch straps; a powerful magical symbol that has been witnessed on military tombstones.
