The Tichborne spoons were found in the stock of a London dealer when he sought to auction his wares upon retirement. The sale catalogue claimed that they were presented to Robert Tichborne in 1657 as Lord Mayor of London – there is no surviving evidence to support this claim.
The Nine worthies of medieval folklore include 3 pagans (Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Hector) 3 Jews (David, Joshua, and Judas Maccabeus) and three Christians (King Arthur, Charlemagne, and Guy of Warwick). To this list were added Queen Elizabeth I, Christ, and St Peter.
The Heritage Collection commissioned 5050 replica sets (50 to be made of gold, 5000 made of silver) and this piece comes with a certificate showing it to be number 922.
