These are from a production run called “old cut glass” produced by Richadsons from 1900 to 1908. They have the appearance of Georgian cut glass from the early 19th century. There are two primary indicators that these are later made. One is immediately visible. the other can be felt.
Firstly the colour of the glass and absence of any clinker within the body. This was for the most part due to the improvements made in kilns and the refinement of commercial raw materials. This colour difference would be difficult to observe without benchmark reference examples.
Secondly the edges of the cutting are much softer this is most noticeable in the blaze cuts. The cuts on these glasses were acid polished. a technique not much utilised before 1900.
These were never made to deceive but to meet a burgeoning demand for Georgian cut glass in the early 20th century. The quality is exemplary.
