Description

A pair of Georgian Regency wine rinsers c1830 opposing double lipped to hold the stems of wine glasses in place whilst being rinsed. They have bands of small diamond cuts with flute cutting to the lower section and with a deep star cut base.

The Georgians loved feasting. meals of more than twenty courses were commonplace in the upper echelons of society during the late 18th and early 19th century. Wines and spirits would be matched to each course and this would required lots of very expensive drinking glases. To rationalise the equation

courses x guests= wine glasses required

into its prime factors of red. white. water. dessert wine. spirits the wine glass rinser was devised and brought to the Regency dining table. A dining suite of glass to this day still has five glasses per place setting for this very reason.

Still ideal items for dinner parties or wine tastings that enable the host minimise the number of glasses brought to the table. simply as your guest to rinse their glass at the table as was necessity in the 18th and early 19th century when wine glasses were a luxury item. They are a good talking point and are certainly “different”. One client uses them today to hold olives and pickle forks. or to serve chutney with spoons. It matters not they are stylish and adptable.

English lead. nice dark metal. no chips cracks or restoration to either Rinser.

They measure 3 ½ inches tall and 5 ¼ inches across the lips.
