This was almost certainly intended for palm toddy or grog. The measures were the same.
Grog is a mixture of rum and water that was served to junior ratings in the Navy. This consisted of 1/2 gill of rum and a gill of water 3/8ths of a pint in total. Silver grog mugs were frequently given to those born into Naval families. This will be the ideal vessel to “splice the mainbrace” at noon. Standfast the Holy Ghost!
