Description
Heading : A Georgian Sterling Silver Tankard
Date : Hallmarked in London for Thomas Wallis in 1784
Period : George III
Origin :London England

Size : Height 9.4 cm. base diameter 6.6 cm
Condition : Excellent other than some minuscule manufacturing roughness at the junction of foot and body
Restoration : Professionally polished
Weight : 177 grams ( 5.7 troy ounces)
Note : A somewhat curious capacity of just under eight and a half fluid ounces (half a pint being 10 fl.oz) or one and three quarter gills. This is a little too large for a period christening gift and a little too small for grog. We had to investigate this. This was the standard capacity for Belgian beer and also the standard measure for beer in the low countries.
