David Bruce was son of Robert the Bruce and succeeded him on the death of his father in 1329 at the age of five. He was crowned at Scone in 1331 and was the first monarch to be anointed at his coronation. Edward III of England took advantage of his young age by supporting Edward Balliol when he invaded Scotland in 1332; David and his entourage fled to France until safe to return in 1341. This became the pattern for his life, which was spent either in captivity or exile, but he managed to reign for 41 years leaving his country in a stronger position when he died in 1371 as the last of the House of Bruce.

Perfect gift for a Scottish nationalist. WATP
