There is some debate about the intended purpose of such glasses. They may have been used as salts or dessert glasses. The alternative name “Monteith” is inappropriate . this was a silver bowl with an undulating rim use for cooling or rinsing wine glasses.
I have just such a glass and find that it is perfect for a nip of Penderyn Welsh whisky.
