It is tempting to believe that this is an end of day item as this is the first we have seen with blue trailing. However. Hajdamach advises thet they were made commercially. There are two types of glass bird feeder. the common seed fountain with a gravity fed tray at the bottom. This is the second and rarer variant the seed box. that was much easier to refill.
The earliest dated museum examples are the seed boxes from 1800 onwards. The seed fountains have date ranges starting from 1825 to 1830 at the earliest. Very few museum examples are dated beyond 1850.
