This may possibly be Norwegian in origin. it is a very dark grey. The Kongelig Allernaadigst Octrojerede Nordske Compagnie sent one Morten Waern known as Martin Warren when in England on an act of industrial espionage to determine the secrets of the English glass industry.

Having tried to recruit glassblowers in Liverpool he was sent to Newgate prison London to reflect upon his sins. He was released on bail and in 1755 he fled the country.  Several English glass workers arrived in Noway together with many more from Germany where the “company” had sent other agents shortly after his return. The names of the Englishmen who migrated together with their families to the Hurdal and Nostetangen factories are documented.

Remember not all 18th century lead glass is English. It is a just a myth that is still widely believed.
