Description
A superb Georgian Opaque Twist Wine Glass which dates to around 1765.
It has a Bell Bowl above a Double Series Opaque Twist Stem with a Shoulder Knop consisting of a pair of 8 ply spiral bands outside a gauze column. the bands and column being Opalescent White. Conical foot with rough pontil.
English lead. it measures an impressive 6 3/4 inches tall with a 2 5/8th bowl and a 2 7/8th foot.
As can been seen in the foot picture. it has two small flake style chips to the underside of the foot however in my opinion. it does not effect the glass in any way. the glass being very tactile and pleasingly heavy.
Opalescence in an Opaque Twist is very rare and this is a superb example.
Most dealers would have the flakes polished out as this is deemed to affect the glass. we disagree and personally I think it’s an outstanding example as is. No restoration. the choice is yours.
Should the glass not be purchased it wil be offered in auction starting 3rd April 2014.
