Description
An exceptional Georgian Peacock Blue Wine Glass c1810 which has a round funnel wrythened bowl with a supporting milled collar. Hollow stem with raspberry prunts on a conical foot with applied trailing.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 5 ½ inches tall with a 2 3/8 inch bowl and 2 7/8 inch foot.
A very rare example. Such glasses were produced for the consumption of Rhenish wines during the 18th and early 19th century. Nowadays known as Hock they had been immensely popular In England since the seventeenth century. both marked decanters and labels are well known. We dont know if they were sweeter than their modern counterparts but the literature suggests that this is the case.
