Condition: VF, a few soil deposits and therefore a probable ground find.

Description: A white metal penannular/omega brooch, with a twisted ring terminating in finials that are diamond shaped, the pin is in place to annular area and is wire loop type.

Size and Weight: 44mm x 56mm, 16.72g

Features and Provenance: This type of penannular brooch  (also known as an omega brooch) was worn on the shoulder or chest to close a cloak. The style of this brooch also imitates the neck torc and gives it is alternative name. Brooches like this were used from Roman times and the Celts Saxons and Vikings all had there own versions. As buttons were still to be invented, brooches were used well into the medieval period.

Extremely Fine (EF). Very slight traces of wear. all parts of pattern etc present. visible and clear

Very Fine (VF). Some signs of wear on the higher parts of the relief. all parts of pattern etc present. but may be worn
