A ‘Fougeres’ cameo vase. Gallé himself was a keen artist. his glass is considered to be one of the major forces within the french Art Nouveau movement. His “Writings on Art” which was released posthumously in 1908 gives a clear insight into his design ethos.

“Fougere”. played a significant role in early French glass manufacture. Ferns were burned to provide a source of potash for glass making. In this case these are aquating plants with fern like leaves. one of many aquatic inspired designs.

The Galle factory continued to produce Emile Galle Art in Nancy long after the founder had passed away

* The pi type double L was introduced by director Paul Pedrizet when the factory reopened in 1918 and produced acid cameo glass for a short period.

This is our second example. Sadly the first was misappropriated by a former member of staff and sold via their own channel. sadly this was not an isolated incident.
